Catching A Wave

We’re leeching wifi from our friends — here are some pictures I wanted to send along:

Bea was wiggling so furiously that there was no chance of getting a clear image in the hospital lobby.

The Bulls game last night was a satisfying win for the home team. It was my first trip to the new Durham Bulls Athletic Park — the replacement for the Durham Athletic Park made famous in Bull Durham. At one game, the outfield Bull prop did its routine, eyes flashing red and steam shooting from its snout, and scared the living daylights out of a young Nate Adam. Last night, a new simulacrum of the old Bull (itself added just for the film) scared the bejeebers out of our friend Luke Musser — in keeping with an honorable tradition, now.

Oh, and we have reached the conclusion that I have plantar fasciitis in my left foot (a physician friend concurs) — explaining the persistent pain in my heel. It’s unpleasant, but it’s not as bad as some of the alternatives I imagined.

  1. i was developing that but found wearing laced shoes with good arch support helped. in my case that meant lace up boots, and no more clogs. but the pain went away totally shortly after the switch.

  2. I can show you a foot exercise that someone showed me – supposedly it works like magic.

  3. I, too, have suffered from plantar fasciitis. It can be very debilitating. I concur with the suggestions of your previous responders. Foot excercises and a switch to shoes with excellent arch support (I now swear by the brand “Merrell”) have kept it at bay for a couple of years. But to initially calm it down I needed cortizone shots in my heel. They are just as awful and excruciating as they sound, but my foot already hurt so bad I didn’t care.

  4. Thanks, Elithea, Jennifer and Carol. Margaret and I found insoles for my regular shoes, but I’ll be sure to check out Merrells next time I’m at a shoe store (and I’ll think about trying to locate my old pair of Merrells in the unpacking process).
