AKMA's Random Thoughts

Drum. . . Drum. . . Drum. . . .

Not propagating fast enough. Come on, let’s get on with this.

[Later] Whee! We propagated!

Congratulations! It looks very nice, clean, uncluttered and easy to read.

I've followed your trials and tribulations with the installation and configuration with awe and now with added insight.

I was looking at Moveable Type on my home network last night. Even as a person who has been "doing" software installation and configuration for almost 20 years, I found the process painful and frustrating. I spent over 2 hours squinting at the instructions, intalling odds and ends of components on spec in the absence of clear instructions, being confused by the steps, etc. and still it isn't up and running.

I'm sure it's a wonderful product, its popularity attests to its power and usefulness, but as a PHP-driven blog user, I guess I've become spoiled by the simple, one-step form-based, automated installation and configuration conventions of PHP products like Nucleus.

Good for you for staying the course and all the best wishes for the new endeavor.

If you haven't tried the Textism-based plugin for Moveable Type, give it a serious look. It makes authoring entries almost a dream. No more angle brackets!

AKMA,
I wonder if there is a problem with the links being propagated via your RDF subscription file? Here's an example of one that came down the pipe, ostensibly pointing to your Drum... Drum... Drum post:
http://akma.disseminary.org.v.sabren.com/archives/000367.html

Note the characters following the .org string. Personally, I've never seen an Internet address that contained that extra baggage. Then I have the empirical evidence that there is nothing at the end of this link. On the other hand, by simplistically removing the ".v.sabren.com" and trying to reload the page, there is a Not Found error again.

Can't help any more than to point out this problem. Sorry.

Cheers. ...edN

PS: Will you put an admin email address up? Comments work but may not have the immediacy of email.

Thanks, Ed, for all these comments. I'm using mostly NetNewsWire for entering content, so (much as I admire Dean Allen and the Textism/Textile plug-in, I'm going to just keep going with NNW. How cool is Brent Simmons? The “italic” and “bold” buttons return the tags for “emphasis” and “strong” (respectivaely), not “i” and “b” tags.

I’ll look into the RSS feed, and will (duh!) put my email address into the template.

You've propogated into the Southern Hemisphere!

I updated my blogroll with your new URL ages ago so tonight, just before I hit the sack, I clicked on your link and found myself looking at the new site.

Congratulations on the smooth transition and your elegant new look.
