AKMA's Random Thoughts

My Amazing Daughter

I’ve had cause to think about how astounding Pippa is a couple of times already today. One cause was an inquiry from Josiah about masking tape, that brought to mind Pip’s fascination with tape, and her capacity to construct all sorts of art objects from various sorts of adhesive — such that one holiday season, our principal gifts to her were various sorts of 3M products. (3M, by the way, is the tech company I would be working for now if I hadn’t left The Industry to go to seminary. But that’s another story).

My second bout of amazement came when Si just walked up to us holding a tangled mass of rubberbands. This heap, resembling little so much as congealed, elastic rainbow-colored brains (perhaps of a departed Deadhead), resulted from another of Pippa’s art installations. In this one, she connected the rubberbands end to end, and stretched the resulting megaband from the east wall of the living room to the staircase on the west end of the house, up and around the stairs, and back east to Nate’s bedroom door. You couldn’t get anywhere in the house, but it looked amazing.

NYC art dealers: I’m acting as Pippa’s agent, for now.

It's stories like this that make Sue and me really excited about having kids.

Of course, then I go to church and see my boss's three kids, who individually are wonderful kids and quite well-behaved, wreaking havoc on the sanctuary. :-)
