Margaret says, “They ought to invent a way of doing the [New York Times Magazine Sunday] crossword puzzle while under the blankets. That would be a big life improvement.”
Posted by AKMA at December 21, 2003 09:18 PM | TrackBackTell Margaret that's a good idea. I also received TWO Times yesterday for some reason. The puzzle is easily half done and I gave the extra away. Today I'll try to get hold of the subscription department! Love, Mom
Posted by: ntadam at December 22, 2003 06:33 AMI don't know if Margaret uses a PDA -- like a Palm -- but I do, and I really like a program called Blue Mitt Word Squares that allows me to do puzzles on my PDA. I can store dozens of puzzles on my PDA and do them anywhere. The great thing about this is that many newspapers publish their puzzles electronically in the .puz format, which can be read by Word Squares and other computer-based crossword puzzle programs like AcrossLite. This means I can do a form of armchair travel via crossword puzzle, doing the puzzle from the LA Times or the Hindu, India's english-language daily. (The latter is tough because it contains clues about Bollywood movies and cricket!)
Because of the popularity of the NYT crossword puzzle, they are one of the few that charge for downloading puzzles. But most newspapers worldwide provide daily puzzles for free -- which means dozens of great puzzles every day in the US alone.
