Do people laugh out loud as much as their three-letter acronyms say that they do?
Posted by AKMA at January 20, 2004 09:14 AM | TrackBackPerhaps slightly more often than you'll find them ROFL.
Posted by: Kurt at January 20, 2004 09:58 AMWhen I laugh out loud its more of a snort out my nose... but sol or sounds like i think what they've said is preposterous so sticking to lol is safer!
Posted by: Mike at January 20, 2004 10:12 AMthat should say "sol or <snorts>" but it got stripped
Posted by: Mike at January 20, 2004 10:14 AMI do not, either. This is why I prefer Glenn Reynold's equally short "heh." It sounds much more like the actual, jaded chuckle some of us do...
Posted by: Wyclif at January 20, 2004 12:13 PMI'm with Kurt - I was going to say that the ROTF is the most ridiculous one - unless you are wireless, it really is impossible anyway to type that while ROTF.
Posted by: Cleave at January 20, 2004 02:16 PMI would say that generally LMAO also seems to be literally untrue, especially since I've seen a few bloggers, and they definately had not lost theirs at all.
Posted by: Paul Baxter at January 20, 2004 04:07 PMI was going to ask about ROTFL and LMAO, too, but discretion overcame me.
Posted by: AKMA at January 20, 2004 06:03 PMUsually it's more of a snicker, or quiet chuckle. However, amusement is involved, and "lol" is the lowest key of the usual options, and certainly easier to type.
Posted by: Jane Ellen at January 20, 2004 06:44 PM:) often means not that something is funny but that you shouldn't take it seriously.
ROTFL often means "You're stupid."
"Heh" has a condescending feel to it.
So, I lol about much more than I actually laugh out loud.
