Pippa Against Carnivory

We weren’t planning on going to this picnic, but now that Pippa has had her way with the response form, it’s probably better that we lay low [or “lie low” and “ ‘lay low.’ ”[

I think your Pippa and my kids need to find each other. Yesterday I was cooking a chicken and Finn stood there watching saying things like "poor chicken" and asking whether we also cooked its eggs when we roasted the whole bird.

Tell Pippa I'll happily sign up for her therapy sessions!

Please make that 'lie' low. I refuse to believe you have given in to JQPublic's disregard for the difference!

Sigh. I weighed the alternatives of “lie low” and “ ‘lay low’ ” (with scare quotes), but they sounded pompous and affected, so I opted to accede to colloquial usage this time. I’ll go back and add the more precise alternatives.
