Haven’t Heard It

Why isn’t there an ad for the Democratic candidate for President that runs something like,

President Bush looks at Iraq and says, “Freedom is on the march.” How would you feel about electing a man who thinks this — [video segments of explosions, newspaper headlines announcing kidnapping, figures of U.S. and Iraqi fatalities] — is freedom?

John Kerry can tell the difference between freedom and chaos.

Just asking. . . . Posted by AKMA at October 20, 2004 02:11 PM | TrackBack

The narration on his latest ad starts out close to what you're looking for:

Narrator: "We see it for ourselves. The mess in Iraq created by George Bush. Over 1,000 US soldiers killed. Kidnappings. Americans held hostage. Bush sees nothing wrong. It’s time for a fresh start. John Kerry has voted for the largest military and intelligence budget increases in our nation’s history. Endorsed by chairmen of the joint chiefs under Presidents Reagan and Clinton.

Kerry: 'As president, I’ll stop at nothing to get the terrorists before they get us.'"

Most people will feel just fine about it. Why? Simple: obviously President Bush (and a number of other Americans) do not consider the presence of rampant violence to be detrimental to the cause of Freedom.

America was a country born of tremendous violence, revolution and even terrorist activity. There is still quite a bit of violence, kidnapping and the like going on in our inner cites, too!

In their mindset, this does not make us (or the Iraqis) any less free.

I don't really agree with that point of view, but it is a point that many will hold to.

boffo up to "...freedom?"

Prezpuppets 'r' us, mas o meno. If we can't see it, how can we distinguish between mutt and jeff? It's about us/US. not them.

I like it.

I would have also liked if Kerry had stared into the camera during the debates, after listing some of the things he wants to do, and said "and I will unfuck Iraq"

So, I'm a little atypical.
