Quick-Witted

When I pointed out to Pippa that the DVD that Netflix sent us was evidently called Groundhog Day, she shot back, “It’s a documentary on what to feed pigs for today’s markets.”

We watched the movie, which (of course) made me think of Dave Rogers, and in one viewing nullified answers to two net-quiz-memes I’ve grudgingly answered lately: (a) it made me cry, and (b) this can only be the one movie one could watch over and over.

  1. Better late than never, eh?

I’ve been saving it for the 2nd, but I may cave tomorrow.

It may be too soon, but it’s worth watching it again with Harold Ramis’ commentary track enabled.

  2. Dave, I had indeed seen it before (over and over) — just hadn’t seen it in a while, and although I knew how much I admired it, that approbation had faded slightly with the passage of time.

  3. “When Chekhov saw the long winter, he saw a winter bleak and dark and bereft of hope. Yet we know that winter is just another step in the cycle of life. But standing here among the people of Punxsutawney and basking in the warmth of their hearths and hearts, I couldn’t imagine a better fate than a long and lustrous winter.”

–Phil Connors (Bill Murray), Groundhog Day

  4. I thought you had seen it before, but your post gave me the impression you were seeing it for the first time. My bad. ;^)

Have you listened to the commentary? It’s an interesting story behind the story.
